STATEMENT FROM THE HYDE PARK-KENWOOD COMMUNITY CONFERENCE

May 31, 2020

For over 70 years, the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference (HPKCC), an independent community organization, has supported and uplifted community residents in order for us all to thrive. The events in the past week have made clear that HPKCC must continue to serve as a place where our friends and neighbors can gather and be together as one.

HPKCC condemns bigotry and violence against anyone because of the color of their skin, where they were born, who they love, or to whom they pray. The tragic and senseless murder of George Floyd reflects deep, systemic racism that has afflicted our country for far too long.

HPKCC also stands by the constitutional right of people to peacefully assemble and speak out against hate and injustice. At the same time, the mission of HPKCC is to connect people in a diverse, green and safe community, and the health and safety of our residents is paramount to our community’s present and future well-being.

During a time of great fear and uncertainty, HPKCC is committed to ensuring that the voices of our community will be heard in order to find a path forward that is inclusive and representative of the diverse members of our community.
