Gary Ossewaarde has lived in Hyde Park over 50 years, having earned a degree in history and worked at and retired from U of C. During that time he has volunteered with unions and varied cultural institutions and community organizations, specializing in their effective operation and activism and as web and position writer. These include Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference (over 25 years, currently as secretary and on the Schools and Transit committees), Jackson Park Advisory Council, Hyde Park Historical Society, Coalition for Equitable Community Development (Housing), and arts organizations. Responsible community and economic development and use of open space among general interests, and seeing increased board development, relevance and impact of the Conference is a special purpose
