Lake Shore Drive: Summer, 2002--Building the lake side retaining wall for the 57th underpass and the rise up to grade. In the process, a part of the beach was lost, at least temporarily, and a new revetment was built. this is partly concrete and steel, partly limestone and will have a grassy swale behind it. It looked (and still looks) unsightly right up to the new beach house and inconveniences strollers, runners, and bikers. The overpass is now gone. The beach and exposed Lake retaining wall area were still under construction at the time of the grand opening in May 2004, part awaits decisions on Promontory Point.
