Dear members and friends of Jackson Park:
The Jackson Park Advisory Council (JPAC) is now set up to receive your dues and contributions for 2009. Friends of the Parks has generously agreed to serve as JPAC’s fiscal agent, in accord with Chicago Park District’s new Guidelines and the council’s adopted financial controls. Contributions will be tax deductible as provided by law.
JPAC uses its funds to underwrite scholarships and other assistance to park programs and activities, to contribute to a healthy habitat in the natural areas, and to administer the council- including spreading the word of our advice and advocacy for strong stewardship, programming, and public facilities and use in this historic and strategic park. We will expand our activity and outreach this year.
We may wish to reach you on occasion with important information—plans and demands for this park are constantly evolving, or you can receive the Newsletter electronically—so your email address would be most helpful.
“Dues” are not required for voting and participation in the council, which meets 2nd Mondays (day after in October), 7:30 pm in the field house at 6401 S. Stony Island. The meeting schedule is posted in the field house; our agendas and recent issues of the monthly Newsletter are available in a binder in the field house office-- and all of these are online at www.hydepark.org/parks/jpac.html. Also, our officers would like to learn or discuss your ideas and concerns for the park, agenda items, or offers to participate in the park or council. Send them along (with contribution or not) or contact us.
Your attendance at our meetings or other participation is critical both in decision making and to show citizen support and vigilance for our park at a time when budgets are under stress and demands and proposals for the park and on open space in general are growing. Make sure your park is here and serving generations to come. And you can help Volunteer Saturday Workdays in the natural areas, spring through fall, 2nd and 4th Saturdays.
